About William (Bill) Proctor

William Proctor, a graduate of Harvard College (magna cum laude) and Harvard Law School, has authored, co-authored or ghostwritten more than 90 books. These. include international bestsellers such as Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s Controlling Cholesterol (20-plus weeks on the New York Times bestseller list) and Dr. Herbert Benson’s Beyond the Relaxation Response. His books, which have sold more than 20 million copies and been translated into over 40 languages, include dozens in the fields of medicine, nutrition, theology, biblical interpretation, and mind-body research.

These publications include a nonfiction study linking the Star of Bethlehem to extra-dimensional phenomena; a fresh interpretation of the Resurrection of Christ from a journalist’s point of view; studies on prayer and meditation; and a series of books with Professor Herbert Benson of the Harvard Medical School on the latest mind-body theories and genetic research.

Bill has also written books and taught skills involving speed reading, grammar, and English usage. These skills have resulted in significantly higher scores for the many students he has tutored for standardized SAT and ACT college admissions exams.

One of Bill’s three published novels, The Last Star, explores links between traditional theology and extra-dimensional scientific concepts. A Publishers Weekly review said, “This novel is a captivating page-turner, filled with unexpected plot twists…. [and] well-developed characters with credible motivations.”

A further exploration of possible ties of Christianity to theoretical scientific cosmology (e.g., the origin of the Big Bang) emerges in Bill’s recently published e-book novel, The Autobiography of Adam. His ideas in this book and others have been tested during more than a thousand weekly Bible studies. Bill has taught these classes in New York City, Florida, Texas, and other locations over the past four decades. These studies have focused on many books of the Hebrew Bible, including Genesis, and all books of the New Testament. His teaching has been conducted in a wide variety of congregations and traditions: Anglican, Episcopal, United Methodist, Church of God, Salvation Army, and several Baptist denominations.

During his research, Bill has interviewed a wide variety of theological, philosophical, and scientific luminaries. These include Mother Teresa of Calcutta; evangelist Billy Graham; Aldous Huxley; and Cardinal Suenens, Belgian pioneer of the Roman Catholic Charismatic Movement. Bill studied at Harvard under theologian Paul Tillich and wrote his third-year Harvard Law School thesis – a journal-published joint project with Harvard Divinity School – on the First Amendment religion clauses.

In sharing his published work, Bill has appeared on hundreds of national and local radio, TV, and print news outlets and has lectured widely on religion, spiritual movements, writing, mind-body relaxation techniques; education; and mass media issues. The venues for his presentations have been wide-ranging:

  • Major women’s conference at a mega-church in Bryan/College Station, Texas;
  • International conference in Manhattan for the multi-million-member Roman Catholic Focolare Movement;
  • National interfaith conference on healing and spirituality sponsored by Harvard Medical School in Boston;
  • Nonfiction writing seminars for English teachers at Hanoi University in Vietnam;
  • SAT strategies for high school students at lecture in Shanghai, China; and
  • On-field, mind-body instruction for Triple-A players of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox.

Finally, a self-proclaimed “grammar geek” and speed-reading aficionado, Bill continues pursuing these interests in the popular tutorials he conducts in person and by Zoom or Skype on the verbal sections of the SAT, ACT, and PSAT. Bill can be contacted by email at [email protected] or by phone at (772) 231-2221 (landline & voice mail) or (772) 205-5837 (cell & text messaging).
